A major conference on the potential of the Knowledge Economy to underpin regional and local development is being organised by the Regional Studies Association-Irish Branch. It is to take place in the National University of Ireland, Maynooth on Monday 12th September. The conference will examine the capacity of areas in Ireland to position themselves to maximise the opportunities arising from the new economy. It will allow economic policy-makers, local and national, to hear about and discuss the latest trends in economic development. The speakers will include a number of the leading international contributors to economic policy and the Knowledge Economy. These include:
Dr. Joaquim Oliveira Martins who is currently the Head of the Regional Development Division at the OECD, focusing on regional performance and policies.

Dr. Jose Enrique Garciloza who is currently the Head of Unit – Regional Growth and Policies, Public Governance & Territorial Development Directorate, OECD.
The above speakers will be joined by leading Irish contributors including Mr. Barry O’Leary, Chief Executive of the IDA and Dr. Vincent Cunnane, Chief Executive of Shannon Development, among others.
