The Challenge
The delivery of planning approval for a major facility to replace an end of life structure. The provision of the facility would have to meet both international expectations and address local long-established concerns.
The Response
Working alongside other disciplines we facilitated active community engagement and the preparation of the environmental studies. The application of an iterative design process embedded best practice in environmental sustainability into the project design, ensuring that all planning and other permitting obligations were achieved within the planning timescale and to budget. In addition, the ultimate design, being based on an active communications strategy within the environmental assessment process, resulted in fewer than expected concerns on the part of the local community
The Effect
The project was delivered to budget and is now in place resulting in the creation of significant local employment and the mitigation of long-standing difficulties for the local community.
